sounds to me like your transmission is shot, when you adjusted the bands did you have the service manual to do it correctly? did you use a calibrated torque wrench? did you fill it back up with ATF +4 (yours might be old enough to be +3, but 4 is better and you should replace it when you empty it all out)? also while you had the pan off did you change the filter(s)?? and how did they look?
Master Tech is the local expert on transmissions if you PM him he should be able to give you more stuff to check.
