Default And here it goes again with the P0442 code!

I get this every once in a while but it does not effect the engine at all. I have covered square inch underneath and nothing shows weakness, yet the code seemingly comes back without a warning. The 02's are new, the cat is new, the EVAP new, and etc. This code is acting like my ex-wife... "seemingly gone, but wait... here is her presence!"

P0442 Evap Leak Monitor Medium Leak Detected
the O2 sensors were a waste of money, check your gascap, put some vaseline on the rubber seal, or put it in a baggie and put it on that, if it goes away you need a new gascap, the other thing is read thru this thread,

btw i have the same issue which i have been chasing and it only pops up when the temperature swings (it comes on for a few weeks in the fall and a few more in the spring)

I know this thread is a little old, but what the heck. I also all of a sudden got this code this morning when I went to start my truck up. Pulled out my superchips tuner and pulled a P0442 as well. Did some research through this great forum and decided to just replace the gas cap first....10 bucks at Autozone, done. Went ahead and cleared out the code too with my superchips tuner. Should I still reset the PCM too or don't worry about it?

No need to reset the PCM. You cleared the code with the tuner.

+1 indy, you cleared the code w/ the programmer, just as good if not better than resetting the pcm manually

I got this code along with 0441 and 0440 years ago when I first bought my preowned 2003. After almost a year of on again off again diagnosis by myself and the dealer, I found the answer. The LDP was faulty and the diaghragm would only occasionally close all the way. See more about disgnosing the problem from the PDF link below:

Nice first post. Not to often does someone on post #1 chime in with real data to be shared.

That PDF article is very informative. Well over my head, but informative. Makes me wonder where my purg solenoid is under the hood and if I would have to crack into it. I thought there was a unused port near the ABS controller that tied into this somehow.

What is the deal with knowing the air volume as illustrated with the blue fluid?
