as stated the 4.7 is 'recommended' to run 5w30, however in most place either one will work just fine
10w30 is for places that are above 0*F
5w30 is for places that are below 100*F (approximate values of course)
if you are between the two most of the year you can safely run either without causing any problems.
(i run 10w30 in my 4.7 and have for at least the last 40k miles without any problems)

10w-30 is fine for a 00 4.7. In Canada I would run 5w-30 year round , I do in my 4.7 . The motor is supposed to have 5w-30. There is not a great deal of difference between the 2 oils anyways, 5w flows better in colder temps than 10w while both perform as 30 weights in hot conditions. 10w-30 is not always thicker than 5w-30 , many brands 5w-30 are thicker in viscosity than another brands 10w-30 anyway. ex Mobil 1 5w-30 is thicker than Pennzoil Platinum 10w-30.

Yup, a 5w-30 is thinner when cold than a 10w-30, so it would flow better at startup, which may be why you run a tad rough until the engine comes up to temp.
I run 10w-30 myself in my 4.7 (Grand Cherokee), BUT I live in south Georgia, spend about half my time in Florida AND I have the HO version of the 4.7 which for some reason, actually specs the 10w-30 anyway...

I run 10W-30 Mobil One Fully Synthetic and it pours like water down to -54 degrees F. It has a better visosity for towing and harder working engines then Mobil One Fully Synthetic 5w-30 because it leaves a thicker film on the cylinder walls while the piston is up meaning less ware and more protection.
But seeing how the Durango 4.7L's engine uses 5w-30 is the "Preferred Lubricant" I would run Mobil One Fully Synthetic 5w-30 year round in Canada, however down in Florida or hotter areas especially when heavy duty use is nessassary I would use Mobil One Fully Synthetic 10W-30 in the 4.7L.
