Default PCM Updates

Was wondering if it would be a good investment to have my 2000 Dodge Durango's PCM's updated, and if there are updates, Dodge service center charges 80$ to hook up and check with or without any updates, I would be curious if there are commonly updates or would I be wasting money to have them check,

You should post this question in the Durango technical section.

Default PCM Updates

i have a first gen durango, 2000 5.9, was wondering about taking my durango in to have it checked for updates, this procedure at the dealer is 80.00, and they don't guarantee that an update is available, but the cost is the same either way, Ive owned this truck since 2000, bought it used with 32,000 miles, trying to see if the updates would improve fuel ecconomy and perhaps run a little smoother, and advice I'm welcome to. thanks

No, it will not improve fuel economy. There is a flash for the pcm that is often referred to as the flash of death, it could possibly smooth the engine out a little if you are having a problem with knocking, but you will loose performance. Fun fact, our Durango's had the worst gas mileage of any suv sold that year. Save your money if you are happy with the way it runs. A stealership that will charge you $80 just to check if one is available is being unreasonable in my opinion.

Better to purchase a custom tune.
