Default '02 Durango R/T Trans

I would have tried searching for some answers, however I was unsure what I should search for. So, today while trying to get on the highway, I was trying to get up to speed and had it WOT, I was at about 50-55 MPH so I'm guessing it was trying to shift from 2nd to 3rd. I wasn't really paying attention to shifts considering I was checking mirrors lol but I did notice when it wouldn't shift, and sounded like it was on the rev limiter, it did shift after I left off and then gave it throttle again. Any suggestions? Fluid low, TPS, is there a linkage that I need to adjust or is that all electronic? A friend of mine has a '01 Dakota, and says his has a linkage to adjust, I've never noticed it, so I'm assuming its electronic. Also a stupid question, proper fluid level checking procedure for the transmission? I was taught operating temp, and in neutral. However someone had told me that would give a false reading in the Durango's, and there was some procedure of operating temp, shifting from park to drive and then neutral. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

This is a common problem. The solenoid valve gets properly electrically energized to reroute the fluid to do the shift, but the pressure is too much on the valve for the magnetism of the solenoid to overcome. If you back off the gas a tad, the pressure reduces and the valve moves as it should. I swapped in a Borg Warner valve (per other reading on this and other sites) and it fixed it.

where did you purchase the solenoid valve from, and do you know the exact name of the solenoid valve? i checked rockauto and they list multiple valves/solenoids for the trans. thanks for the help

You can get a borg-warner or many have used a kit to switch to the GM solenoid. Here's a site with some good information http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm.

i wouldn't really need to switch to the GM solenoid, considering its not a high performance trans, correct? just get the borg-warner? if i can find it.

It does have the 46RE. The differences between the two do not relate to this part.

I would take it a step farther and install this kit~~> http://www.ebay.com/itm/46RE-47RE-48RE-518-Complete-Solenoid-Upgrade-Repair-Kit-Heavy-Duty-21350-/190801429972?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c6ca6c5d4&vxp=mtr

3 of the 4 sensors are located internally in the trans and all 3 are common to fail. Also, the OD accumulater spring are also common to snap... no sense dropping the pan as each fail when you can drop it once and be done.
