Default 2003 Durango Rear Window Washer Problem

I have just purchased a 2003 Dodge Durango. I seem to have a somewhat minor but annoying problem. Everytime I start the vehicle, the rear window washer starts squirting fluid for about 20 seconds then stops. This happens everytime I start it. Short of emptying out the resevior, which I assume there is only the one in the engine compartment, I was wondering if there is a fix for this. Thanks for any help for this new Dodge Durango owner.

Can you press in the wiper button on the dash to activate the rear wiper manually? It may be stuck in the engaged position, may be designed to operate on a 20 second timer. Stuck on all the time and having a timer would make it do what you see, but also not make it operate manually.

I've tried that and nothing. The wiper itself doesn't move at all, motor seems to be burned up, it just squirts out the fluid on start up. What you suggested would make sense, but didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion.

I wasn't talking about rotating the wiper **** to make the blade move, just to press it to engage the washer. If rotating it does not work to make the wiper run, and pressing it does not work to make the washer squirt, I'd suspect something in the **** on the dash.

Before doing dash work though, I'd pull the rear door panel, pull the plug to the motor assembly, and measure voltages when you operate the dash switch. The motor either doesn't run because it's not getting power, or is getting power and is indeed defective. Figure that out to see what to do next.

Ok, I have had someone do some testing for me. The motor is indeed burned up. I am not concerned in fixing it at this point. I just want a fix to make it stop squirting everytime I start up the vehicle.

Just pull the power connector off of the motor to the rear washer and be done with it.

That's exactly the type of quick fix I am looking for. Could you explain how to do that. Not sure where the connector is for the rear washer. A diagram or link to one would be helpful. Thanks.

My washer bottle is different than yours, but I think there should be a connector for each motor on it.

Motor probably burned up because the switch is stuck on and it ran till it couldn't anymore. Check to see if the circuit is hot going to the motor all the time.
