Unhappy A/C Leak!

Hello, I have a 2001 Durango with the 5.9 and dual A/C system. I for the life of me cannot find this leak. Is there common places that these models leak from or is this just a trial and error type thing. I have replaced the evaporator core in the front and the o-rings in the rear along with the gasket for the front evaporator expansion valve.

I had a leak from the gasket/seal where the lines bolt to the top of the compressor a few years back. They sell a kit with all kinds of gaskets and seals for around $10 at autozone. Usually you'll see oily residue around where it's leaking from. You could also put dye in it to find the leak.

I had dye in the system, I have put it on the vacuum down to 30" does that pull out the dye? I can't find anything with a dye light. I have charged it and it slowly leaked out over the course of a few days.

I think I will replace that gasket just cause, it probably needs it whether it leaks or not.

I don't think the vacuum will pull out the dye. All it pulls out is moisture, air, refrigerant, etc. The oil is left behind, and the dye probably is too. There are also electronic detectors that "sniff" for refrigerant, but I don't know how expensive they are.

How do I know if I have enough oil in the system? Most tech manuals are pretty vague about that.

At advanced auto they can look up the fluid level specs and amounts for most makes and models. They also have the uv detector hand held pen lights for sale.

The only way to know how much oil is in the system is to remove it all and put new oil in. There are tables in the fsm (it's in the diy section) that approximate how much is in each component. I think the dual system uses around 8oz total.
