Default No oil in filter on oil change

Hi All, I wonder if anyone can help me on this? I went to change the oil, and the filter was empty! I've not seen that before. I think I was 2 quarts low when I went to change it. After filling it with the usual 6 qts, it looks over-full, and the pressure seems higher than usual. Took off the new filter and it was like 1/2 full. Then I ran it again and it is closer to a normal oil level.
Anyone have a clue what might be going on? 2000 4.7 4WD, 138000 miles.
Thanks!

Dang! Didn't want to hear that! Just wondering though, why do you suppose the pressure looks higher than usual?

I have to agree with Jkeaton.

when you say "higher than normal pressure" what exact pressure are we talking about? and what oil did you use ie. 10-30 , 10-40 ect?

Good to know. I just thought of couple other things:
1. this was a "cold" oil change. (I usually do them hot).
2. Just put in a new battery.

Thanks

I thought the 4.7 needed 5w30. 10w30 will be thicker than 5w30 when cold, so that could explain things.

For the summer it's 10w30, 5w30 is for the winter, don't rush it! Thanks though!

actually ont he 4.7 both weights are acceptable year round with 5w30 being the preferred weight (yes that is year round). This information is directly out of the 2002 owners manual, when i doubt consult the experts who built the car.
