I was trying to replace the ABS sensor and when I went to twist it to release the seal it broke off at the surface. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it out of there without opening the diff cover or is it even possible to get it out of there even with pulling the diff cover? BTW it is a 1998 Dodge Durango, SLT, 5.2L, 4x4.
It really only takes a few minutes to open up the diff. I wouldn't screw around drilling and crap that will take much longer as well as possibly contaminate the diff fluid anyway making you have to open it and refill it.
And it won't hurt to change the diff. fluid either, just make sure you have the friction modifier if you have an LSD. You'll also want to have some sealant to re-seal the cover. personally this is the rout I'd take, much simpler.

How can I tell if I have an LSD? Pretty sure I don't but want to be sure
