99 Durango shuts down while driving
I have a 99 durango w/ 5.9 4x4, while driving it will just shut off. Check engine light will come on for a few seconds, then it starts right back up. I have replaced the fuel pump, puel filter, throttle position sensor, front and rear speed sensors. It has 92,000 miles on it, I also had the 90,000 mile service performed by the dealership on it as well. I have noticed that when I move the connectors to the computer i hear a clicking sound coming from the relay box and then it will start back up. Has anyone else had this problem or know what it might take to fix it. Thanks.

RE: 99 Durango shuts down while driving
Checked it, I even put zip ties around it to make sure they stay in place, still it continues to shut off. I did an OBD II test and nothing happened, took it to a dealer and they said that the computer in the truck is showing it was started for the first time that day. I am lost and dont know what to do besides replacing the computer, any cheap way of doing that.

Dodge Engine Stalls to be Investigated
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have started investigating Dodge trucks and SUVs after receiving more than two dozen complaints of the engine stalling in the Dodge Ram 1500 trucks and the Dodge Durango SUVs.
The NHTSA has said that initial investigations will involve some 506,000 units, and that consumers had complained the engine stalls occur under all different driving conditions, and at various speeds.
DaimlerChrysler has said that the actual vehicle number to be investigated is smaller than the number given by the NHTSA. In 2004, Chrysler sold 426,289 Dodge Ram trucks and 137,148 Durangos in the United States.

RE: 99 Durango shuts down while driving
I finally took it back to the dealership and had them check every pin in the pcm connectors they came back good but said the pcm was bad, so I told them to replace it $545 for the part alone. I pick it up tomorrow we will see what happens then. Good luck to you.

RE: 99 Durango shuts down while driving
Has anyone found out what causes the problem of stalling while driving? It scares me so bad that I refuse to have my grand children in the car anymore. I guess it will take someone getting killed in an accident before Dodge will recall them. My husband called Dodge and was told they didn't know what it was. The mechanic on duty got smart with him and the lady in the office only had this advice, "don't take any long trips".
