Default 98 SE Alternator removal help

I believe I have a bad alternator in my 98 intrepid SE. Can someone please walk me throught what is needed to remove/replace this unit. I have worked on cars for years but never this motor and figured I would reach out to the experts for help. The shop wants over 600 to do the job when I know the part is only 160 and I refuse to let someone take me for a ride like that. Any help is greatly appricated.

before you even spend the $ on an alternator, have you absolutely verified that it's bad?

you have the 2.7 engine?

removing an alternator on these cars is about as easy as it gets.

but before you spend the $ on a new alt, you should check into having it rebuilt or get a good used one.

Replacing the alt on the car is a simple peice of cake. I would agree to have it checked out first before spending $$$ on it to verify it is bad.

What engine does it have under the hood as well.

I did notice that you posted this question under the 1st gen Dodge Intrepids. Your car is a 1998 Intrepid is a 2nd gen.

1st gens are from year models 1993-1997
2nd gens are from year models 1998-2004

Sorry I posted it in the wrong section, it is a 2nd gen. 1998 with the 3.2L. It looks like everything is simple besides the one bolt that is going to hit the front fan assembly.

Once you get the belt off and get he bottem bolt out, you can remove the top bolt just enough to get it past the bracket (You will know) and remove the alt with the bolt still attached to the Alt. Once the alt is out, just finish removing the bolt.

That is what I did to my 1st gen when I had to replace the Alt on it.
