Default What does stock SOHC run?

In the 1/8th mile?

I have a CAI, atx TB and muffler, rebuild SOHC(with a knock and crazy oil leak) ran a 12.85 and spun horribly off the start.

Also any idea what a 2.4 DOHC swap(just stock motor in a neon) would run?

Racing a car with a bad oil leak...makes as much sense as stabbing yourself in the leg before a track meet. In prime condition a 1G sohc mtx neon should be in the 16.3 range

A swapped 2.4L (BONE STOCK) runs about a 15.3 in a neon. The 2.4L has a higher torque output than a dohc 2.0L. Stock for stock, the 2.4L will win by maybe a 1/2 a car length. This is the reason a 2.4L does not need to rev high to reach peak torque, like the 2.0L cars. The 2.4L also make about 165lbs of peak torque, where dohc makes 140. The sohc makes about 132lbs. Simple mach, with more torque at lower rpms, it peaks sooner. Solution is to get larger cams made (along with other modifications) to make power past 6500rpms.

So if a neon runs 16.3, whats that average on the 1/8th?

Doesn't seem right.. there were old school muscle cars running 8's quarter mile, even new GTO's weren't making that in the 1/8th..has to do with the launch and whatnot that affects it.

The times I gave were 1/4 mile times, as pro tracks here run 1/4 mile times. Divide that by two for the 1/8 mile.

not sure on the 2.4 but i was pretty sure its only 150lb-ft... but i know for a fact that the 2.0 dohc only makes 132lb-ft and the sohc only makes 129lb-ft... although thats all stock for stock and anybody with half a brain is for sure going to take the balance shafts out of the 2.4 when they swap and if they could find a set for super cheap or if they ahve a 2.0 dohc they can swap the 2.0 dohc cams into the 2.4... altogether should make the 2.4 a fair amount happier then a stock 2.4

you can not divide by 2 to get the 1/8 mile time. from the starting line to the 1/8 mile you are accelerating from 0 so the last 1/8 would always be faster even if you stop accelerating and hold your speed constant right at the 1/8 mile mark.

Do you have dyno sheets to back this up? www.allpar.com is my source of info here. Removing balance shafts has never been proven in a before and after comparison to do anything. You only need to swap the exhaust cams. The intake cam is the same between the 2.0L dohc head and 2.4L dohc head.
