Default OBD Code 12,1,1,1,1,55

Hello, My 97 neon SHOC 2.0 is reporting OBD Code 12,1,1,1,1,55. And I haven't got a clue as to what this type of report could mean because its not listed on the code list. She's randomly cutting off. Last night I was about 8 miles away from home she cut off on me for the first time. 5 mins later I cranked her up she started every thing was fine, then as I was driving home, she began to choke along, at one point I would give acceleration there would be no response, then acceleration would kick back in, then it would feel as if there was misfire somewhere. Engine light illuminated no surprise as I was expecting that. She done this for 8 miles to get me home, at times almost completely dying but hung on.

I love my car she has been good to me for 5 years. I don't want to part with her at 92,000 miles... Its way too early.

Could someone please help us as to shed a little light on what our problem could be. We would really appretiate the needed help. Thanks in advance.

Thats how the 1's came: 1 pause 1 pause 1 pause 1, then 55 end of report. I got word that it was leaking engine oil earlier that day cause my GF says it left a good brown spot in the driveway.

Thanks for the replys.

Ya know 9R/T.4door8, you may have something, because when I took the battery off to have it tested a couple days ago I should've cleaned them before I reconnected it.

I will clean then crank her up and see how she runs... And post back... please wish me luck...

Thanks again everybody

Okaaaay... Cleaned the Battery terminals took her around the block thrice and... she runs great at the moment thank ya! It was just the battery terminals that needed cleaning WOW

Dropped the engine oil cap down the sewer OUCH!!! Anyone happen to know how and where I can obtain another? Will it hurt to drive without one for a while?

BUT... I'm still concerned about that oil slick. She's still dripping

My condition report: Greatful for the help, quite a bit happier , but that oil slick...

Oil leaks can be a lot of things. Could be oil pan gasket, rear main seal, camshaft position sensor, oil filter. Get down there and have a look.

Honestly you may be able to drive without it, but its too much to chance since the oil could spit out of it. Auto stores should have it and jy's too.

Driving without the oil cap off is a bad idea. Think of all the dirt and other crap that can enter your engine!!!

I put a quart of oil in my Mazda before heading out on a road trips one time. I drove a couple hundred miles before checking the oil and realized I left the cap off. It made a pretty bad mess of the engine compartment. I recommend stuffing a rag in there at the very least. Of course make sure the rag doesn't interfere with the workings of the rocker arms or any of that business.
