Default rough idle sometimes

ok i have a 98 DOHC every now and then it will start to idle realy bad like its skiping a cylinder but only at idle after about 20 min of driving it idles at about 1500rpm for 1 min and then returns to normal idle like nothing happend. well the other day my cel came on and i took it to autozone the ecm said low flow in the egr. the next day the cel went off. so i wander if the egr could have somthing to do with the idle problem but when the cel was on my idle problem was not infact i would say it ran better when the cel was on.

any ideas

The egr is suppose to close at idle, if it sticks open it will idle rough and possibly even die. If it sticks bad enough that it stays open when then engine is off it will hard if not impossible to start.

always start right up even when the problem is there. but the thing is i have to run the car for 20min or so before it will go back to normal. in other words if it starts 10min before i get to work and then sits all day thats 8+ hours it will still be 10min or so before it runs normal again. and it dues not matter what rpm it runs at it takes 20min.
