Re: Bolt torque Specs on a 98 Neon DOHC 2.0
Hi All,
I have a 98 Neon DOHC 2.0 automatic. I am confused with the torque specs for the cam caps on the head. I have read in Mitchell that they should be torqued to 20 ft lbs. and Chilton's says 21 ft. lbs. Yet when I try to set them according to those specs the bolts either snap or feel like if I continue they will strip out the thread.
I went to the junk yard and found a couple of the exact Neon's to test the tightness of the bolts and there is no way they are set to 20 ft. lbs.
I called the dealership and the parts guy there tells me they should be set at 105 in. lbs.
So does anyone know for sure. I have to say, the ones I tested did feel closer to the specs the dealers parts guy told me. With the exception of the end cap bolts which felt like they may be set at 20 ft. lbs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. See attachments to see which bolts I am referring to.
Thanks
