Default Multiple problems, help?

I have have an SOHC 98 Neon and my wiring harness has melted together, and this is the second time its happened. Also the altenator seems to be going out, and the car has a major oil leak coming coming from the back of the motor. What I want to know is why does the wiring harness keep melting together?

Because there is a short somewhere. Or you have the wires to close to something hot. Are you sure the alternator wires were installed correctly. A lot of times the main feed from the alternator is black and people tend to hook it to a ground when it should be hooked to a positive.

The wires were hooked up correctly, but the alternator squeals a lot, especially when starting. As for the wiring harness, it was melted where alt wires were, but it never shorted as far as I know.

Going to take some electrical diagnosis with a multimeter. Sorry cant help you on here with that. If you need to know what a wire is or where it suppose to go I may be able to help.
