I would first pull the drum and do an inspection of the shoes. If the drums are hard to come off the brakes may be tight. I would also clean the whole area inside the drum, check the wheel cylinders for leaks, and put some anti seize on the 3 contact parts of each shoe. You can lastly adjust the shoes by removing the rubber plug and turn the adjuster for a close fit.

Hmm During that first 45 min. do you smell brake lining cooking or is the drum hot to the touch? If not than I would think that it is not too tight. Also, does the hand brake apply with a reasonable amount of pull on the e brake? I just feel that there is no substitute for pulling the drum off and giving it a good inspection, cleaning, lubricating, and checking the wheel cylinders for leaks.

Have you done the inspection recommended above? You need to inspect your brakes. If you don't know how, I recommend taking it to a brake shop.
