Default Need more Help.

How do I figure out if my trans mission has overdrive?

When I get on the expressway, I can only get to 55 after that it starts sounding like it needs to shift one more time.

Any help would be great.

I am going to take it to the local transmission shop and see what they say.

There are numbers on the flange that the pan bolts to. They are on the drivers side on the vertical surface of the flange. There should be three sets of numbers there. If you take those numbers to the dealer they can ID the trans.

You can tell which trans you have by comparing it to these images:

The top trans in both images is an OD trans (A518)

The first image is of 2WD trans options A518 OD trans (top) bottom is a 727
The second image is of 4WD transmissions. OD trans on top.

In addition here is a guide to identifying them by the pans:

If you have a 904\A500 the above images will also be very close where the A500 will look similar to the A518

Sorry to jump in late but just in case, the left one is with overdrive (518) and the right one is without (727). Pretty obvious with that giant tail piece which is the overdrive unit. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all. I will check that out when I get it back.
I have it at the local vocational school getting some work on it.
