@tooltime
it's not hard.I just followed the wires back a little ways on my '83 and cut em off.
@crazywolffie
not yet, I havnt bothered cuz the door switch isn't working anyways
@seal
I believe that is what it is. When I was pulling stuff out and fideling around the headlight switch I probably turned it. I didn't know it was a **** till my boss tried that :/
however, now I'm having more problems. The other day I was driving and it just shut off. So we checked some things out and there was a burnt fuse. Replaced it, it just burnt again. Cut the wires from the door switch and it quit burning the fuse, but still wouldn't start. Tested the HEI module and it was burnt out. So we changed it and it started right up. Tried driving it home, but it was really hard to start out and shuddering whenever I'd give it gas. So I turned around and it shut off again before I got back to the shop. Fuse is fine still, and we havnt had time to do more digging. Any ideas? :/

Never did figure the HEI out, followed a wiring diagram and everything was right except theres no power going to the distributor. Tried 2 other modules and nothin. Got the 400 sitting in the shop, chrome valve covers on and gaskets changed. Flywheel should be done being machined, gotta get a pvc valve or grommet to fit the chrome covers, change the pilot bushing, rig a dual exhaust, and that should be about it. Order a big block bellhousing from shophemi,but apparently they were discontinued. I just happened to luck out and the guy I got the engine from had the dual pattern bellhousing for the 435/833 transmissions, aluminum too So snagged that for $60. Started rippin the /6 out, should have this beast rippin pretty soon. Dana 60 is almost done, just need calipers (going with '84 chev c20 front calipers for now, couldnt find any with a parking brake for a decent price, so probably change that later on), pads, brake lines, and some u-bolts and shes good to go!

There's always gotta be a wrench in things. The bellhousing isnt actually a dual pattern like I though it was, so stuck there. Keisler isnt getting back to me, so ill be ordering a used dual pattern bellhousing from mopartruckparts.com. Gotta change the fuel pump as well, he had an electric fuel pump on so the mechanical one was sitting with the lines open and its all seized. Flywheel/clutch is on, /6 and tranny are out. Got the Dana 60 painted. Was going with 3/4 dodge front rotors for the disc brakes, but the holes are too big for the wheel studs. Gonna try some chev rotors like the website said and see if they fit proper.

Wiring question! The alternator on the 400 has 3 wires, 1 big black one (power?), 1 smaller green one and 1 pink one (field wires?). Now the /6 had a mini alternator put on it, and it had one wire off the battery and then a plug with 3 wires too it. Which wires would I have to connect for it to work?

Is the /6 alternator a Dodge alternator or an after market? Could one of the wires be an exterior ground as bad grounding is a known problem with Dodge alternators? My typical wiring diagram for 85-88 shows a 4 wire alternator for a 100 amp system while the 60 amp is only three. The extra wire is a ground.

Here are those pics I said id get
/6 alternator
Part number?
R N23 5250
400 alternator
Im not sure as to what the /6 alternator is, though I wouldnt be surprised if it was aftermarket. I've seen some mini alternator kits for the 400 that use an aftermarket one. Unfrtunetly I didnt have to time to trace the wires back after work, probably do that on Mon. So its possible that the 4 wires are just 1 batt, 2 field, and a ground?
