Default what winch to get best bang for buck

hey my truck (81 power ram short box on 33's) has a winch ready bumper and ive always wanted a winch but didnt want to spend much on it. whats the best bang for the buck or should i save and spend the money .

i rarely would need one usually if i get stuck (very very rare) i get someone to pull me but lately its usualy just me that wants to go and this way i can still be stupid and winch my self out what winch should i get.

the winch i want is the warn powerplant with the air compresser on it but its expensive so if i will rarely use it what should i get

what size winch should i look for

Go as big as you can. You'll never wish you bought less winch.

I have the Superwinch Tiger Shark 13,500 lbs winch I purchased from Amazon. I bought it last summer and it was $577 delivered, they are more now. I have used it numerous time and would recommend them.

They price as follows on Amazon:
9,500 - $349
11,500 - $493
13,500 - $626

I've read a number of articles and forum posts about the Harbor Freight Badlands winch and "generally" people are happy with them.

I have one of these:
Amazon.com: Tuff Stuff Xtreme 12,500Lb Waterproof Winch: Automotive Amazon.com: Tuff Stuff Xtreme 12,500Lb Waterproof Winch: Automotive
I got it for $325 from Amazon and I'm very happy with it. But I guess Amazon doesn't sell them anymore?

I dunno the answer but based ou your location you might wanna check out the website BC4x4.com and ask there, those guys spend a ton of time talking about winches and stuff, and a lot of them do trail driving and offroading and such around the lower mainland (hover over resources on thier main page and u will see a listing for message boards)

The Internet thing can kind of depend where you are, I know a lot of guys around here have stuff shipped to a place just on the other side of the border and then go pick it up.. saves the border fee, and some places ship free in the lower 48, I hear lots of guys in the lower mainland do that too cuz theres places like that just across the line. For sure you should check into used stuff if you think its a good deal, lots of guys upgrade and then wanna sell the old stuff

And how bout some pics of the winch bumper.... I'd really like to get one someday but have only ever seen a couple neither of which seemed to fit the truck very well
