Glass Pack

Glass Pack
So I put a glass pack on my truck a few days ago. 20 bucks I couldn't turn it down. Anyway it isn't very loud at all. I have seen some very interesting things on the www. about breaking them in. Pouring cold water in them after they get hot, putting used oil in them and then driving around smoking out mosquitos, etc. Do they break in? Do they get louder? How long does it take? Most of what I have read sounds very odd but so many people are saying it so I have to wonder.

What size was the body of the muffler? The smaller the body, the louder the exhaust. Some of the bigger ones won't be very loud at all.
I had a Magnaflow Magnapack on my 2012 Ram. It got slightly louder, but over time, it lost quite a bit of tone. By the time I sold the truck, it was too quiet for my liking. I prefer a muffler with little or no packing inside. Just my two cents.

I'm not completely sure about that; that may mess up the general flow of your exhaust. I would talk to your local muffler shop about that one. On the other hand, the exhaust would be significantly louder with something like an 8, 12, or 16" body. My Magnaflow was a 14", and it was pretty loud.

every glasspack/muffler sounds different, usually the sound they make won't change untill maybe they are worn out. changing where the muffler is in the pipe will change the sound the exhaust makes, just as the length of the exhaust will change the sound it makes. if you want loud buy some purple hornys and bolt them straight to a set of headers and thats it, or try some cherry bombs. also magnaflow's website has video's of the sounds thier diffrent mufflers make. I run headers, and true dual 2.25 inch pipes back to a 2 into 2 AP muffler right before the back axle that ends the system, and it sounds good, it's not crazy loud but it makes enough noise that you can hear it pretty decently.
