2nd and 3rd gen wheels on 1st gen truck
I see a lot of posts and websites saying that the 1994, 1500/half ton truck wheels will fit 1994 and up models. Anyone know if I will have a problem installing 1994 and up 16" and 17" stock Dodge 1500/half ton wheels on my 1988 Dodge D150 2wd? I have the same 5x5.5 bolt pattern and 139 offset on my 15" wheels as newer trucks. I believe the 1994 and up wheels have the same dimensions in the 16" and 17" wheels....I have 235/75 R15 tires now and will need 235/65 R17 if I want to keep the same speedo ratio and overall size. I'd just like to drop the old steel wheels with caps for some alloy wheels and there is 17" dodge wheels all over Craigslist.

thanks for the info guys, the info about the spacer was helpful. I've researched the tires and for me to use a 17" rim I would need a 235/65 R17 to match the EXACT height, width and overall size of my current 15" tire. So I don't believe wheel well space is an issue, I shouldn't need a lift, I will just have less sidewall to my tire and more rim height which is what I want. I was more worried about the hub and lug bolts. My current wheels do use a 5x5.5 lug bolt pattern which is same as the 2nd gen and 3rg gen trucks (from what I hear). The offset is 13.94mm on my wheels which is same as the 2nd gen and 3rd gen wheels (from what I hear).....so it depends on the 2nd gen and 3rd gen rims width (mine are 7", newer rims may be 8") and specifics about the wheel hubs. An 8" rim that has the same offset as my 15" wheels will simply have 1/2 inch more on each side of the offset which also should be fine. I'll appreciate anymore info if anyone has experience with this....thanks all!

Actually headed out tomorrow to pick up a set of 98 Dodge SST wheels! The offset and bolt pattern are perfect but they are 9" wide not sure if they will work. Everything measures out that I will have clearance but I will be real close on the fronts with the upper/inner part of the wheel at the upper control arm/ball joint. It will be tight....I'll post a picture if they work!

Newtjr, as I dig into this more and more I see exactly what you were dealing with. My rotor in the front and axle hub in the rear all have a 3.5in center bore at the base......almost every wheel I find with the correct bolt pattern and offset they also have a 3in center bore. Could you give me more info on your wheel spacers/adapter you used? I'm having a hard time finding spacers/adapter that have a 3.5in center bore to a 3 in center bore. We're yours "hub centric" or universal? Any help for me?

Wheel adapters
It took me some digging but I ended up getting wheel adapters/spacers from Ebay from a company in California. I ordered 5x5.5" adapters with 2" spacers. The company was familiar with the D150 wheels. Said you need at least 1.5" spacer (adapters). I will check on my invoice and let you know. Also here is a web site to check on tire dimension when your are deciding what to use: tire-size-conversion.com/tyre-size-calculator. newtjr
