Default 1977 727 torque converter seal

Anybody know what is the correct torque converter seal for a 1977 w150 318 with a 727. The seal I pulled out is a national k9927rer and every parts store I take it to they can't get it and I end up with a drive works 331227h and its just a little bit too small

If this info is wrong you can find it at Chicago Rawhide/SKF. They can get any seal know to man.

The problem is that the 331227 seal is too small. All the other seals I have crossreferenced from it are the same OD. I'm wanting to know the proper seal I need.

My guess is that your trans or pump housing was changed since the one for the 77 is to small. See if you can get the year of the trans or pull the old seal and get some measurements off it(you will need a caliper). Use the link to get a part #

How would I find the year for the trans? Is there a casting number or something stamped on it?

Just about everything that Chrysler made has a casting date on it. It's usually a circle with the last two digits of the year inside it. I forget when they stopped putting the vin # on the side but you may want to look for that also. That would be on the drives side on the flange that the pan bolts to. Not sure if different year pump housings are interchangeable so the best bet would be to remove the old seal and get some measurements on it.

I checked the numbers on the tranny and its the right year. I found a date written in the front of it so I'm assuming it's been rebuilt and it must have a different pump. I'm gonna try measuring the seal. Thanks for the info.
