Default Converting to 4wd-big undertaking?

Looking for anyone with insight into this swap, as I can find a few nice bodied '92-'93 D250 trucks, but nice W trucks are hard to find, they tend to be beat up farm units. I'm not even sure I want to do this, because it does sound like some work, but I can be talked into it.

I think I read in a frame post in DIY that the engine crossmember would need to be swapped, and spring mounts.
What about a trans/t-case crossmember?
Is steering box the same?
Is all this stuff riveted to the frame?

Any help would be appreciated.

It can be done but it's no cake walk. Best bet is to find a donor vehicle and swap over everything. Mods will have to be done to the frame so you better have cutting and welding equipment. If you could fine the same configuration as your truck(short bed standard cab, long bed extended cab etc) you could swap frames. A lot of work either way.

I guess my next move would be to go to a junkyard and see the differences. If everything is riveted to the frame that would be difficult. Don't have cutting torch at this time. Thanks for your reply Moparite.

Aaaah...I'm going to abandon that idea. Waiting for the right truck is easier.
