Need help on my 79 D 300 club cab

Default Need help on my 79 D 300 club cab

i just bought this truck its a 1979 dodge 300 club cab i dont know what transmission it has but it is an automatic it has a 360 motor the transmission went out yesterday in it it shifts to reverse just fine but drive threw d1 it makes noises did a fluid and filter change today i think the transmission is a 727 but not sure also need help with the wiring diagrams

A 79 360 will take a 727A. All big bock's take 727B and 6 cylinders use the 904.

Default Ok it is a 727

Ok the transmission is a 727 I do have a 904 will it work till I get the other one rebuilt?? But is the tail housing too long and mine is a bolt on drive shaft

They are very similar, The 904 is more suited for lower hp rating as the 6 would be. You could use it temporarily if it will work with your truck. There where some differences in tail housings/slip yokes etc...

How hard is it to change out tail housings from a 727 to a 904 I can't find any info

You will also have change the output shaft if they are different sizes. Here is a video of a complete disassemble/rebuild.

Thanks for all the help I learned a bunch from.research and yall. But will a 727 with a longer tail housing that's mounted up to a 318 bolt up to a 360 both trucks are the same year

All small blocks have the same bolt pattern so yes. What ever tail housing was on the original is what you need.
