Default Replace oil pan/sump on 1988 D100

Just curious if anyone has replaced the oil pan/sump on this particular model (has 318 engine w/ automatic transmission) - I'd be more inclined to have a go at this myself if I knew that I could do it without having to jack up the engine....come back...thx

While I'm at it, the reason I'd like to replace the pan is that it appears the engine was replaced at some point - stamp on this engine reads August 1984 - dip stick feels like it hits the oil pan and takes a turn, eventually contacting the crankshaft....I'm thinking it somehow has the wrong oil pan - perhaps needs one with a channel in the pan so it can reach the bottom of the sump??
