Default Oil Leaking in 05 Dakota

Hey guys, I'm new here to the forums and this is my first post. I recently bought my 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT 4.7 in December of 09. The truck has been great so far and i'm really impressed at what it can do, sometimes I don't even think it should be classified as a mid-size truck compared to the others on the market.

I took the vehicle in for service at the dealer i bought it from yesterday for an oil change and the service advisor took me under the truck and showed me that the rear main seal is leaking oil and it is quite expensive to fix. It was hard for me to believe as the truck only has 47,000 miles and i've only put 4,000 miles on the truck since I bought it.

What are your thoughts on this? Is this a common problem for Dakotas? Thanks in advance.

7 yr/70k warranty is only transferable to the Second owner. 3rd owner and so on gets nothing! I got lucky, 05 Dak. second owner. I paid the transfer fee, I think it was $150.00 and i'm covered for 2 more years.

Does the 7/70 warranty cover things like ball joints, tie rods, control arm bushings? I bought my 05 last summer and didn't know it had a 7/70 powertrain warranty? Is it too late for me to get it transferred over?

No, mostly engine/transmission. Go here to download more detailed info

http://www.dodge.com/en/lifetime_powertrain_warranty/

Then click "Download Warranty Information" on the left.

Cool thanks. I will have to call chrysler to see if I can still transfer the powertrain over.
