Default Engine Codes 02 Ram 1500 - 4.7 v8

Check engine light came on the other day and these are the codes I got. It does run somewhat rough on initial start for about 15 - 30 seconds. Then sounds normal and really smooth.

P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0442 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Small Leak Detected
P0455 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Leak Detected

My biggest concern would be the 302 code. What should I start with, change the spark plug on #2 ? Any one else ever get any of these codes?

Coil. Gas cap possibly for the other two.

Agreed with the coil. Try swapping it to another cylinder and see if the code follows. Try cleaning the gas cap and filler tube mating surfaces with WD40 before you buy another cap. That trick fixed mine.

Here's what I ended up doing. Disconnected the battery, pulled coil on #2 and swapped with #4. Cleaned up gas cap. Re-connected battery. Unhooking the battery cleared the codes. Started up the engine sounded perfect much better than before. Took a short 5 mile maybe 10 minute drive around town. No codes yet. Guess I'll know for sure on my drive to work tomorrow.

Thanks for the info

It's been a couple days probably 60-70 miles on the truck. Check engine light is back. Only P0302 now.

hmm so moving the coil didnt take the code with it. the code is still a problem with cyl 2. pull the plugs out of 2 and inspect them. if that doesnt do it, check the plug wires.

I agree with pulling the plug on 2, but there's only one plug and no wires.(4.7) Also, check the connector that plugs into the coil. You may have a frayed wire or a wire may have slipped back in the connector not making good contact.

If it makes you feel better I wish my truck had a hemi lol Ok I'll try some things tonight. Well probably Sunday depends on the weather. Which is cold and rainy now.
