Hub nut "Do not re-use" ???
When I replaced my hub, there wasnt 3 bolts in the back, only the one bolt on the spline. Clearly stamped on the bolt is says DO NOT RE USE. Well, I did, but when I called advance auto parts they didnt sell them. Should I call dodge? Why cant I re-use the hub bolt?
Thanks

Well, the manual agrees, don't reuse the nut.... If there isn't a cotter key, or something to hold the nut in place, I would assume that it is because whatever method it uses to keep the nut from backing off, only works once.
You can probably get away with leaving it on there long enough to get to the dealer, and pick up a new one. I have no idea why Advance wouldn't sell the nut that seems to be required for the new hub.... It also doesn't mention that it should come with one. Of course, NOWHERE does it say that you need to buy a new one either.....
Bottom Line. Go to where you have to, and get a new one.

Not to say what i did was the right thing but,
I recently had to drive to Oklahoma from NC, 1300 miles and had to throw a new hub on the day before i left. I could not find one of those nuts any where, i re-used the nut and red locktite. Now this may not be the best method but the truck went to Ft. Sill and drove around there for six weeks and then came 1300 miles back. Probably 4000 miles total since I changed the hub and still holdin up fine.
Not saying this is right, just what i had to do.
I am going to replace the nut in a few weeks when i do the passenger side, but in a pinch the locktite did a great job. Now I hope i can get it back off.
If you look inside the nut there is a plastic lock ring, I'm assuming that once it is torqued to 185lbs and the plastic is "cut" to the threads it might not hold if you reuse it. Hopefully this helps.
