i believe there are 3 classes, could be wrong and probably am(i will get corrected). class A,B,C. i think A is light duty(under3,000 lbs), Class B under 6000 lbs. and C under 10,001 Lbs. there are a couple of sizes as far as receivers go. dont know what weight they do. maybe someone will chime in.

There SHOULD be a label, either stamped steel, riveted to the hitch or, numbers stamped right into the crossbar of the hitch. It will have a great deal of useful information for ya.

Im pretty sure all 2" receiver style hitches will be at least a class III/IV. Not sure the weight that class can carry tho.

Do you know if it was factory installed?

Aside from that, I haven't a clue. Might be better off just going and purchasing something that you KNOW will work, rather than taking a chance of having to wonder whose trailer that is passing you, only to realize it is yours........

If it's a 2" receiver, it's a III or IV. Class V has a 2.5" receiver. On a half-ton truck you're limited to Class III loads anyway because the suspension cannot handle Class IV loads.

Could someone post a pic of the hitch on there 1/2 ton?
