Rear view mirror buttons: What do they do?

Auto dimming mirror. The mirror compares the amount of light it see coming in through windshield to the amount coming from behind or in the cab. If light is equal on both sides, then it won't tint. However, if it's dark in front (night or sunshade) and it sees more light coming in the back it'll tint to cut down on the glare. Basically an electronic replacement for that switch that's on the bottom of the mirror on every other car.

Thanks! Think that would be in the manual

Actually, there is a whole section on these in the manual. For the mirrors, it is the very first section in "Understanding the features of your vehicle" Right after all the safety stuff. Starts around page 93 for 2011-2012. Around page 126 for 2013-2015.
And yes, it answers the question about the driver's door mirror dimming. (Ctrl+F is your best friend when searching the manuals)
