Default 95 dodge ram O2 sensor

When im driving down the road and hit about 2500 rpms the check engine light comes on. It's an automatic by the way. Could this be because of an oxygen sensor cause i have been told the truck has a bad one. Also, does a bad O2 sensor cause mpg to worsen?
thanks,
Jeremy

Yes, a bad O2 sensor will give you bad MPG's but before you condemn the sensor as bad, pull codes and see what it says. THEN go from there.

Ditto on what he said. If it is the O2 sensor, make sure you get a NTK or Denso sensor.

Well I did what you said Dodgeram07 and what appeared was 12-15-55.
12 is Normal.
15 is because my speedometer doesn't work
55 End of error codes

I guess there's nothing wrong with my o2 sensor then.

Check the VSS in the output section of the trans(2wd) or transfer case(4wd). These guys have been known to go belly up, and will give you a code. Won't help with fuel economy either.

oh, stupid me. I just remembered another reason why the light comes on. Could it be because the overdrive $#!+ the bed? I have pretty much no overdrive because one of the rings around it broke and i found it in the tranny pan.

A failed oxygen sensor most often doesn't cause a code to be thrown until some time after the owner has discovered it.

While a failed oxygen sensor will cause poor fuel economy, rough idle, and an annoying sucking sound (first through the intake, then through your wallet), it's not common for them to punk out at 2500RPM in the early part of the normal end of life failure. They tend to show more symptoms and idle, and to get happier with higher RPM.

Do you get CEL? Exactly what are the symptoms your truck is suffering from? What has been does to it, how long has this been going on?
