Woke up yesterday, went to the garage and smelled a strong odor of gasoline. Upon further investigation, I discovered my truck had a rather large puddle of fuel under the fuel tank. I put the truck up on ramps and poked around underneath: Fuel was steadily dripping from somewhere in the vicinity of the Fuel filter/pump. Tank was full, so I decided it was time for a professional garage to tackle this one. Dropped it off at a friends garage yesterday and should know what the problem is today.
Got the tank down and the shop says it looks like the forward vent is leaking. They put some epoxy on the area that was leaking. I will fill it up and give it a test. Definitely report back with the findings as I am sure this is something other people are interested in.
After three years of following 3 different Dodge truck forums, this is the first time I've heard of this problem. I bet it will come up a couple more times in the next 6 months or so, just the way this stuff runs.
I am happy to report, the epoxy is holding! I filled the tank full and nary a leak! I plan on keeping this truck for a while, so I will have my buddy order a new tank and have it installed. In the interim: No leak!!
