Default 1991 w250 w/dana 40 front axle

Hi Everyone, new to the dodge forums and trying to help a friend out with a 1991 w250 with dana 40 front axle, need a diagram of the hub assembly, the nut bottoms out before it gets tight on the bearing leaving why to much play?I think somewhere along the line someone has left some washers/spacers out or something?the hub drive comes out with a snap ring, then there is two nuts with one washer between them holding the hub?tried looking thru past posts but could notfind anything.thanks!Mark

I assume you mean the Dana 44 front axle because our trucks used the Dana 44 and 60 up front. The 44 was used on the 1/2 ton and 3/4 standard ton. The 44 came in two styles 44-FBJ and the 44-8FD. Which do you have? The 44-8FD has a vacuum engagement for the 4 wheel drive. If it is the 44-FBJ there are manual or automatic locking hubs. Go about half way down the following thread for pictures/diagram. I hope this is what you want.

Default wow quick reply!

Thanks Seals, will have to take another look but must be the vacum model as there is no manual or locking hub, it is as shown in that diagram except for it has 8 lugs, he went ahead and put new bearings in , but still seems to have alot of play, and when you go to tighten the nut down on the bearings it is like it bottoms out on the threads before it snugs them up leaving aprox. 1/8" play in the hub? thanks for all the help for us newbies!

Default updated info .....

well, actually it is a 1990 model, and as for the axle model... wondering if it has been changed to a diffrent model as I see no vacum attachments, and really looks like it is full time 4x4?But the pic Seals sent me to looks right? Now on to that box of chocolates!

I am not positive on this but with 8 lugs you may have a heavy 3/4 ton with a Dana 60.

ok . can anyone suggest a reasonable priced place to purchase a hub?Going to swap hubs from right to left to verify, but looks like either the spindle or hub is the problem, found out the current hub had been bought used, so comes to question quick! the spindle looks ok but can not find any measurements to check it aginst?thanks for all the help!

With the hub removed does the lock nut thread easily onto the spindle all the way?

If you want to buy new you must correctly ID the axle first. As far as I know hubs are still available for our trucks thru parts dealers. If you want used contact Stump R to see if his are compatible.

There are 8-lug Dana 44 HD (Big Bearing) that were very common from all manufacturers in 3/4 ton trucks.

To the OP what motor is in the 1991 W250?
