Sick of my Auto Tranny, can I put in a manual.
Well I am about to get a third tranny put in my truck with only about 155,000 miles. Last one was put in at 130,000. The new one will be covered by a warranty from the shop, it was 3 years 50,000 miles. Even though it doesn't directly cost me anything it is frustrating when it goes out and driving back and forth to the shop and getting a ride and have to work out a time to be able to take my dads truck.
I have been considering the idea of putting in a manual since the last one went out. Wondering if anyone has any FIRST HAND experience swapping in the manual. I don't want to here about your cousins, brothers, friend.
How hard is it to install the clutch linkage, and get the shifter whole cut?
What tranny will work, do I have to find one for the 5.9 360, or will one out of a 5.2 work. I would like a beefy one if possible, I don't pull but maybe 2 loads a year but it is nice to have the peace of mind.
Is this something that I could do myself, or maybe work with the shop and see if they would do it still under the warranty and maybe pay a little difference if need be. They have been great people to work with to this point I recommend them to anyone in my area.
I am not an expert mechanic but (lol what I am about to say is exactly what i didn't want from you) my friends, friend has done many thing on his 3-4 dodges including his megacab longbox. I have the common sense and a little know how and the abition to tackle this project, but I can be very cheap and easly cut corners when working on it myself.

Yea me and you are in the same boat but this is the only my sec time my trans is going out (last one was on the guy befor me that own the truck). But yes you can swap in either a nv3500 which is found behind the ram 1500 5.2 only. Or do what i doing and find a 2500 with a 5.9 gas and get the nv4500. If you dont know that is the same trans they use befind the 5.9 cummin and v10. Yea it over kill to the max for my little 5.2. I done alot of reading and found that it should be a bolt in job. I would find a parts truck that has all the little things or it going to cost you alot to peace it all together. This weekend i well be pulling my trans out and hoply getting the 5 speed bolted in. Here is a link to my tread i well be posting pic and well try to answer any your question you might have.

Its the trans that came behind the 3/4 ton 360, 488 V10, and Cummins. Your best bet is to get one that came behind a 360. I think the gear ratios in the diesel and V10 versions are different than the V8 version.

The only different is the input shaft and the out put shaft are smaller. The input shaft on the diesel and V10 are 1 1/4 and the gaser are 1 1/8. Plus the bell house is deff to.

Found an ebay special for 1000 bucks. Would my t case match up or would I need that to.
My friends neighbor has a 95 or 96 cummins 5 spd sittin out in the cow patch, but I think the tranny is why its sittin there.

You won't find a NV3500 behind a 360 gasser, it will kill it. You need the NV4500. You might have the hole for the hydraulic line. This is what you are going to need to do. Drill hole where the shifter is going to be on the tunnel, swap out the PCM for a manual, pedal assy. w/ clutch pedal, 360 fly wheel for a manual. I might be forgeting some things but this what you will need.
