Default Cost to Replace Timing chain

I have a 2003 Ram 1500 3.7L V6. My timing belt tensioner is making a noise and I've had a couple estimates to replace the timing chain, gears, tensioner, gaskets and fluids the for around $1400. Does this sound close or is it a high estimate? What is your alls thinking?

Might be a bit high, phone a few places and ask what they'd charge. Just give them the list of stuff they'll need to do.

I would certainly be calling around and getting some prices. That sounds really high to me

Yeah i thought that was high. I priced the items and the parts are only about $350 the quotes I got all had a markup price of almost $900 for parts. I have a friend that is working for tech school and im gonna go see about them doing it. Thanks for the replies.

You could see how much they would do it for if you brought the parts in. First ask how much they would charge total, then how much parts are, then you know labor and tell them you will bring the parts

If you put themon the spot for quoting you labor costs they have to stick to the price they quoted. Just make sure you tell them to call you if it goes over 1 minute or they gotta do extra stuff
