Default 231hd Transfer Case Question

Ive got a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.9L mag Off road edition.

Just found out the old transfer case is trashed. (This is a contiuation thread from the past)

I found a guy selling a NP231D off a 97 Ram 1500.

Can I put the NP231D In place of the NV231HD?

He only wants 200 for the T-case So Im hoping it will work.

Yes, both have the same bolt pattern and spline count to interchange. The only difference is the shift pattern. The NP231 went 2hi, 4hi, N, then you moved the shifter to the right and down for 4lo. The NV231 is 4lo, N, 2hi, 4 hi. Those shift patterns are if you are sitting in the truck looking at the shifter.

SO Ive got a bit of an update:

I concluded I had the NV231HD But looking at my trucks specs online.

I just crawled under her and saw that it actually has a New process 231D.

so this must mean it was replaced in the past?

Either way, the 231d the guy is selling off the 97 is from an auto trans and I have a manual trans...Will I have any problems there?

Sorry, that was way wrong. I have a np231 and from upper to lower it shifts-4lo,N,2hi,4hi. I also have a nv 231 and shifts 4hi,2hi,N,then to the right and 4lo. But still the bolt pattern to the trans and the outputs are the same.

As long as it's a 231 or 241 out of a dodge('94-01), or a 231 from jeep for that matter.

I'm in the process of gathering parts. I have a 97 1500 with a 5 speed and np 231. Would this would work on the 46re auto of that year and up?

Both of my np231s are 2wd, 4x4 high, N, 4x4 low, front to back.
