Question Trouble changing water pump

Hi I'm trying to change the water pump on my 2000 Ram 1500 van and can't get the fan clutch off I have the special tool but it won't come loose which way do you turn the bolt if you're underneath facing the front I've been turning it clockwise from the back because I read online it's counter clockwise from the front can anyone figure this out because now I have no car and have to walk everywhere. Also what kind of bolts are the water pump pulley bolts and where are they located I read they were allen bolts.

I tried using a pry bar to hold the pulley but it still spins and I don't know which way the nut needs to be turned from underneath.

Did you follow the link? The pry bar did nothing for me either. I had to removed the water-pump and the fan+clutch assembly from the engine. Once removed, place the water-pump into a good vice, then take a saw-zal to the nut, but spaced where my threaded post says, this is how you can then separate the two.

Also if anyone knows which way the engine turns on a 5.2L motor that would be a big help.

I'm 99.99% certain it's clockwise if you're standing in front of the vehicle and looking at the motor. You can look at the pitch on your fan and figure it out. Naturally you will need to look at your serpentine belt routing and see if the fan turns the same direction as the motor.

I know my v belt LA (non magnum) 318, all the belt driven accessories turn clockwise, and the magnum serpentine belts turn the h20 pump CCW and the water pumps are not interchangeable between the 2 for this and probably other reasons.

On a 99 van I cut the fan nut off with a saw-zal while the pump and fan were still on the engine. Changing that pump with new fan clutch, t-stat, by-pass hose, top radiator hose, heater hose, new belt, idler pulley, and serpentine tensioner unit took me 3 hours.

I really didn't want to cut the fan clutch off cause it still works fine. Is there really no way to hold the pulley I think i'll try channel locks. if anyone finds an idea as how to hold the pulley please reply.

I use a chain wrench like this to hold pulleys.
