Default 2006 Dakota Rear Drum Removal

I own a 2006 Dakota club cab, v6. I am having terrible problems with the brakes. The entire truck seems to shudder when I apply the brakes. I have changed the Front Rotors, Front brake pads, and also had Rear Drums Replaced. The shop did not replace the rear shoes, and I feel this may be the problem. I have been told I need special tool to pull the rear drums off. Can anyone help? Do I need anything special ??
Thanks,

I don't think there is a "special" tool. I have not done mine but i have never heard about a special tool for taking the drums out!

all you need, if they are stuck is a couple of 9/16 bolts. there are threaded holes you put them in to remove the drum. Shuddering is a common problem on these trucks, not sure if, by 2006, they got it fixed. I know there was a tsb where they replaced the axle and drums, etc.

Adjust the brakes in as far as you can then grab the bfh to loosen it up.

@ ericemery
The drums on my '99 were stuck tight. Didn't think I was going to get them off.
Followed your advice (Heat, beat and got a BFH) and they are off.
No pads left either side....Don't think the Hubs have ever been off (80K miles).
Thanks

I barrowed a drum puller and it worked well. They where rusted on the hubs. Backing out the shoes will not make a difference but that is a normal procedure anyway. Do not bang them off that may cause damage to the axel bearings. Changing the rear brakes including the drums make a big difference in the shutter problem. The drums become out of round and run out is beyond correction.

I am changing the shoes on my '06, drums came off, shoes went on, and now the drums won't go back on. Any ideas? My neighbors and I have tried everything we know of. Any help would be appreciated. I lose my secondary vehicle in a few days!

You need to adjust the brake pads in. The new pads are larger the on the warn down ones.

Get the5000+ page service manual from
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...s-manuals.html

Its just to hard to explain how to adjust them.
