DIY: Replacing standard power mirrors with heated power mirrors (Durango Edition)
Ok guys and gals,
Here I go again with another mod that i recently did on my 1998 Durango.. I installed a set of heated power mirrors in place of the standard power mirrors. it is very easy and should only take about an hour or less to do (depending on your skill level) so lets get on with the mods...
again...
What you will need:
Set of heated mirrors
Phillips screw driver
socket set
all the 1st gen Durango's (except early 98's) are pre-wired though the rear defroster, There pins are included in the power mirror plug (99-00 6-pin plug pin #6, 01-03 8 pin plug pin #4)
First thing you will wanna do is remove the door panel. This is done by taking the phillip screw driver and removing 2 screws on the bottom, one at the handle, another behind the door latch (you will have to pull it like ur opening up the door to see it) and a final one up by the mirror itself...
After the door panel is removed you will then see three nuts and a wire coming through the center of them.... unhook the wires from the connector and remove the three nuts... after you have done that the mirror should pull right out....
Next, feed the wires of the new mirror into the hole that the old wire came out. replace the 3 nuts and snug them on. Make the connection from the new mirror to the male end that the old mirror came out of.
After that, re install your door panel and enjoy your new heated mirrors!

Yep, as long as you have rear defrosters... i always assumed that all had them but, im learning that you could opt-out... i guess if you live in a warmer climate you would not need em
