Default 92 Dakota 318 to 360 conversion/flex plate

Hello again, and how you Crazy 4x4; I'm finally getting the machine work done for my 5.9 block and they need a flex plate next week to balance the rotating assembly. I've got the flex plate for the trans/engine package out of the 96 4x4 Ram that I'm using the for a donor motor but don't know that it will fit the 92 transmissions torque converter or if I can use the 96 torque converter in the 92 tranny. What ya'll think?

I'm good, especially since I might be able to drive my truck this week after 3 months of an axle swap.

As for your question, I say it depends on which is in better condition. Did you have any problems with your 92 transmission? And do you know if the 96 transmission worked perfectly? The 96 is not as trust worthy that it was well taken care of as your 92.

When I did my 5.9 swap the Mopar performance shop owner that I got all my info from said to use the 5.2 TC. Due to a slightly higher stall speed since the 5.9 has more power it doesn't need as high. I never verified if that was true.

So I suggest find out which is in better condition and which has a higher stall speed. Napa has tons of details on their website try there first. www.napaonline.com

Default flex plates

But the 5.9 has external balance on the flex plate and the 5.2 is not. Anyway I've found out that the bolt pattern from 94 to 96 is different. I have to find out which trannies I have.

LOL! I miss-read your post. I thought you were asking which Torque Converter to use, that is why I was talking about stall speeds. Ops my bad!

My 5.9 came from a rolled over 2000 Dakota R/T. I got it complete wires and computer and all for $1,000 about 7 years ago or so. I rebuilt it just in case and good thing the machine shop found cracks in the heads at the valves seats. So under warranty still I got New/Rebuilt heads free from the junkyard. They were mad I had it all apart within the 7 days of warranty. LOL

Ah, So the heads I'm looking at with the 2.02 valves might not be the best choice. I've heard that the Dodge heads with the large valves had problems with cracking between the intake and exhaust seats. Hughes Engines has a set of iron heads that will bolt on and all accessories will bolt up. They will even port them for you if you want. I'm torn between the iron for reliability or aluminum to save weight.

Anyway I'm fixing to pull the lower plate off the transmission to measure my bolt pattern on the flexplate. I think I'm going panic of naught. Will let you know...

Yep, panic for nothing. The flexplates will interchange just fine. I did find that the rack and pinion I bought from Auto Zone about 2 years ago is leaking. I quit buying parts from them.
