Default 2001 Dakota PCM bad

Hey Guys, new here. While driving my 01 4.7l V8 Dakota it died on me and wouldn't start back up. Odometer reads "no bus" Took it in to dealer to get a diagnostic check, and they say bad pcm. Evidently oil got into the pcm and caused problem. They want $1060 to fix problem. I'm looking at

http://www.autocomputerexchange.com/Home

I get my pcm $165 free shipping.

Anybody heard of them? Also how hard is it to install a new pcm? I"m fairly mechanical but no expert.

Thanks!

same thing happened to mine, pcm was fried. got mine off ebay for 200 but had it overnighted for 50 bucks.

its so easy to install. just remove 3 bolts. and the 3 wire harness'. passanger side firewall you cant miss it. by the intake filter.

I just ordered mine from them, works great. I will tell you to call, I had to wait 3 weeks for mine. They said it was due to a national backorder. That was back in September though.

Default Thanks

Thanks guys, very helpful. I can't believe how much they want to fix the problem, I will get it towed home and wait for pcm arrival.

Will this effect my keyless entry/alarm system? As long as my vin and mileage are correct I don't see how but my research shows some people had security/alarm issues after.

i didnt have any issues with keyless entry, but i dont have an alarm.

the dealer wanted over a grand aswell. they sure do rape you for every penny when its not even worth it. i wonder what they wanted for labor to remove 3 screws.

Default Where does the oil come from?

Hi. New to the forum. I have a 2001 with 218k. I am also having problems with oil in the PCM connector. If I clean out the oil in the connector, truck runs like a champ for a while until there is oil in it again. Where is the oil coming from?

Default Yes it is!

Don't know where it is coming from but I've cleaned it out more that once. I thought at first it was some kind of dielectric grease to keep water out, but now I don't know.

i don't believe how that can even happen. its plugged in. even if you poured oil yourself over the connectors while its plugged in i would have a hard time believing it would get int here. so if you have an oil leak lets say, the chances that the oil flys around the engine bay and magically finds its way to the pcm, then INTO the the connectors it cant happen.
you would have to notice oil on the outside on the connectors for this to have any chance of happening.....do you?

i hope i dont come off as a dick, but i just cant wrap my brain our this.

It's possible and common but it's likely not engine oil.

It's probably power steering fluid. The pressure switch can leak and the fluid moves along the wires into the pcm.

Check the pressure switch.
