v10 RAM no start....frustrated
ok, new to the board here...
been a mechanic over 13 yrs. have some common knowledge of the industry
i have my own shop and can usually figure things out on my own, but i'm going out on a limb here because i'm despereate.
1996 dodge ram 2500 v10 8.0 liter.....
towed in, cranks but no start.
...no spark
... no fuel
replaced ecm with aftermarket part from fisher
truck starts but shuts right off
heard a relay clicking under hood...found later to be TRANS RELAY
(THIS IS WHERE STUFF GETS WEIRD)......
removed relay and truck started and stayed running....test drive
runs good ...stutters every 3-4 seconds, shifts ok
got back to the shop shut off truck and no start again....
reinstalled trans relay.....still no start
installed new crank sensor from dodge....no start
no injector pulse
no spark
fuel pump runs 45psi at rail
battery fully charged
cranks ok
tested 5v to cam and crank sensors, ground good,
HOW DO I TEST SIGNAL FROM CRANK AND CAM
any ideas what to do next?
i've been reading alot of threads and topics.. " hey you" seems to know his s**t.....
TIA.....ttrash

Gotta short somewhere then. PCM grounds the injectors/coil. They get power thru the ASD relay.
Grab an assistant, and try this:
Set your meter to read voltage at the coil, ground the meter on the engine. (connector unplugged from coil) have assistant turn the key to on, but, not crank, (yet) should see voltage for about three seconds, then nothing. NOW have him try and crank, voltage should come back while the engine is turning, and go away again 3 seconds after he releases the key.
You can grab a 96 service manual in the faq section here. Might make your life a bit easier.
Oh, and: Welcome to DF!
Edit: Ooops, V-10...... five coils...... two modules...... should be able to check at one or the other of the connectors for power. Both should do the same thing, so, grab the one that's easiest to get to.

With the engine not running, you will only have power for a short time. (by the time you turn the key on, and walk around to check, power will be off....)
Center wire on 2 pack connector is power, on three pack, with the connector facing you, lock tab on top, the bottom left cavity is power feed. Other cavities on both connectors should be open (on resistance check).
