Default 96 ram 1500 fuel pump electrical problem

i have a 96 ram 1500 with the v6 that wouldn't start 1 day. i checked and it had good spark but dry plugs. i couldn't hear the fuel pump come on when i turned the key on so i checked all fuses they were good. i wiggled the wires that connected to the fuel pump then when i turned the key it came on. it ran fine for a couple days then the same problem i disconnected the wires from the fuel pump all the connections look good no corrosion plugged it back in and it worked again. now it has quit again and i cant get it to work again i tested and got 12 volts on the wires for a second when i turn the key on. is there any way to know if its a fuel pump problem or electrical problem i also get trouble code 42.

Next time it won't start, thump on the bottom of the gas tank. If it will then start, time for a new pump.
