Default Buttons on driver's side door trim panel not working

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2009 Dodge Journey SXT. Well, my parents do. But when it comes to fixing stuff, it may as well be mine. Car is out of warranty/etc.

A while ago half the buttons on the driver's side panel stopped working. The ones not working include:
  • Driver side window switch
  • Passenger side window switch
  • left/right mirror switches
  • D-pad for adjusting the mirrors
Only two remain working... The two rear window switches.

I first suspected it was the module in the door that was bad. I removed it, opened it up, and visually inspected.. Didn't notice anything wrong though. There are two wires that go to that box though: A large one with several pins, and a smaller one, with three pins. The larger one with multiple mins seems to control the rear power windows, as well as the backlight, and the window lockout switch.

All of the ones I described up above seem to be controlled by the three-pin (data?) connection.

Anyways, I ordered the new part, put it in... and nothing.

So the problem lies somewhere else.

Anyone got any pointers on how to debug that 3-pin data connection?

Wiring diagrams or something perhaps?

So, minor update here.

I checked the fusebox that's located under the hood. Found that the fuse for the driver door switch / window switch was blown.

Woo hoo! Easy fix! Well... nope =(

Replaced the 10A fuse with a new one... but still nothing.

Tried both the original door trim switches and the replacements as well. Nothing.

Is there another fuse box in the car that I'm not aware of? Anything else I should check?

No, I have not. Thanks for pointing that out though. I called up the dealer, and just scheduled an appointment for the recall (any any others that may apply).

I'll report back with results once it's through.

This seems to be a widespread problem, the 4th Gen Rams (09+), newer Grand Cherokees also have the same problem and it's wires breaking at or inside that wire harness. I also know that newer Ford trucks are experiencing the same issues.

Can you say "cheap Chinese parts"???

Volkswagen has the same problem too. I think the problem is the Length of the wire just doesnt match the angle that the door flex, and gets crumbled and pinched as you open and close the door.

Had the same problem on our 09 Journey. Recall fixed the problem. Just took the dealership forever to fix it.
