Default performance on 2000 5.9 Durango, SLT, with AWD

Someone I know has a '00 Durango 5.9 loaded SLT with the AWD. I have a '04 Hemi Limited Durango. He runs his mouth a lot, and was just wondering if I could beat him with mine. Just incase there is a time I can race him, I would like to kill him(meaning, beat him severely). If anyone knows what these 5.9's can do, please let me know, thanks.

Once your motor is broke in you will have no problem beating a stock 5.9.

Once the 5.9 becomes nicly modded ( I am almost there..but not quite) it will be able to take a Hemi!!

Easy on the beat him severely. What is the gearing on the new Durango's and what was the hp rated for the hemi? Your car is also full sized compared to the old durango's which were built on the dakota chassis. While we are on performance i am trying to find out if there are available performance chips for the the 5.9 R/Ts. Does anyone have any info or know where i could go to find out any new news?

Hypertech.com lists a programmer for the 5.9, but doesn't differentiate between the R/T and the other 5.9s.

See thats the thing most places have a program for the 5.9 but not for the R/T series. Even when i email them they dont respond or say they are not sure. Thanks for the info and ill check out the site.

Thanks for your replies.

dodgefreak- When your "there", ( on your modding, to beat a Hemi) bring it! Lets go!! Haha, just kidding! Also, when is the motor, broken in fully, or when will I be getting best performance, about 6-7k?

Custom R/T- Our Durango has the 3.92 gears.

I have a 00' 5.9 R/T with the towing package and have a superchips tuner installed. It actually takes out the stock PCM program and repalces it with a choice of several settings. Youc an also change the rev limiter, shift points, top speed limiter, and speedo changes for changes in tire sizes.

I woudl think the stock performance on the R/T is going to be a little better than the SLT.

I have been using the superchips tuner for about 6 months and could easilly tell the difference. I have hear gains of 30-40 HP and would have to say it is pretty close to that. I did have to send it into superchips so that they could program it with the R/T PCM settings. It does work on all 3 of the engines, but for some reason they don't come with the 5.9 R/T settings

http://superchips.com/html/products/...gas_trucks.htm

I havent been in the 04' durango yet, but it should of course be heavier, even with the increase in HP it all comes down to the weight/HP ratio and the gearing on your 04'
