Default Which kind of power steering fluid?

What kind of power steering fluid do I put in my truck. Appears that I am low its at the Add mark, did not want to have to go back to the dealer just for that. Any suggestions?? How much do I put in? Thanks

ATF+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid. It's in the owner's manual.

If you're low, you may have more problems than just low fluid. Check the pump and rack for leak(s).

I was thinking that too. I have checked for leaks but not seeing anything. Not sure how long it has been low as checked for the fist time the other day. I was going to top it off and then seeing if it drops again and then taking it back to the dealer. I will check the tranny fluid also. How long does the truck have to run before checking the fluid. Does it have to be running at the time?

A good place to start looking for leaks is the pressure hose as well as the return hose. Pressure hoses are known to get small holes where the fluid just drips out slowly.

x2 on the ATF+4..sad thing is that mine is full but my PS pump whines like a constipated elephant. I thought it was just a cold weather problem but now I have it happening daily don't feel like replacing it until spring but I don't think I can wait much longer..

Make sure you check tranny fluid while the truck is in neutral too. This will circulate the fluid giving you an accurate level.
