Default In-Dash Navigation System Problem

I am the original owner of a 2006 Ram 3500 Cummins 5.9l. I have just begun to have problems with my in-dash navigation system (Code REC). After a short period of driving I will get a "NAV Message" warning telling me there is a "disk error". If I turn off the ignition and restart, things are OK for a few miles/minutes before I get the same error message again. Once the error message shows up the nav screen is blocked by the message window and cannot be used for navigation. Only turning off and back on removes the message. I've tried removing and reinstalling the nav DVD, but this only temporarily restores the system until the next "disk error" message.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this and if so what did you do about it? Thanks. John Hixson

First thing I would try is a lens cleaner disc. If that doesn't help, I would then try a different/new nav disc. If that fails to remedy the issue, then it's time for a new REC unit.

I'm currently using a burned DVD-DL, and the first two would not read for crap. Third disc I burned at the lowest possible speed, and it's never given me a single error. Keep that in mind if you're not using an OEM disc.

I would want 400 for it. I have the unit, disk and owners manual.

Dont know if this might help but I know they came out with an update for the NAV system. I was notified by the dealer and the new disc/upgrade costs $150.

I had the same problem yesterday on my 2006 Durango Hemi. I took out the CD and shot some air from a dust canister. It seems to work..no more error messages. Keep you guys posted.

I'm having the same problem, but I cannot get the disk to eject. I can hear it trying to eject, but the disk does not come out. Any tricks to getting the disk to eject.
