2009 Ram spot rusting on front chrome bumper...
I just noticed quite a few small specs of rust on the chrome front bumper of my 2009 Ram SLT. Truck has 80,000 km on it (approx. 50k miles).
It's not some form of "surface rust" or something that has deposited on the bumper and rusted. I looked closely and I'm sure it is rust from the base steel bumper coming through tiny perforations in the nickel/chrome plate.
I used the Search feature, and a TSB was mentioned. Prior to seeing that, I used a metal/chrome polish and then put a "once a year" polymer wax on the bumper. Right now, it looks great. Years ago, I had a similar experience and found that if I waxed the bumper 3 or 4 times a year rust specs were not an issue--presumably the wax filled in the small pores in the chrome plate. If I take my truck to the dealer now, the bumper looks great.
Just wondering if anybody else has had long-term results with a light metal polish for the chrome, followed by waxing? If I can avoid the hassle of going to the dealer and fighting for a replacement I will.

I find the paint quality on these trucks is really cheap. They scratch very easily, and seems like there's not many coats, I can scratch my paint with just my nails, and started noticing my clear coat peeling in some spots, mostly on the roof. In 3 years my truck should look like my 89 Toyota..

Even though I have the life time power train warranty, the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty expired in March.Just noticed rust spots under the plastic top that covers the top of the front bumper on both ends. This really sucks, because I don't know if I can get any help with it now!!!!!!!
If your warranty only expired a couple of months ago I would suggest a call to the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center and see if they will help you out. Let them know your warranty just expired and make them aware of the TSB number and tell them you think they should cover it. It can never hurt to ask. Numbers below.
