Default AC Clutch Problems

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota 5.9L I just had to replace the coil on the compressor because it was bad and wasnt engaging the clutch, So after that I put everything back together and plugged it back it up and it doesnt cycle at all. So I tested the connector it self the coil is good so I tested the connector off the wiring harness side, and it has 12v goin to it so I hard wired the coil to the battery just so see if it would engage and cycle and it did when held to the battery so we fully charged the system to see maybe that was the problem and let it cycle off the battery to do so. Hooked the connector back and turned on the ac and nothing at all doesnt cycle at all???? So my question is could it be the high/low pressure switches, computer? Thank you for reading and helping in advance.

Default Did you?

Did you check the gap between the plate and the compressor it needs to be a set gap.

The only other thing it could be is you re connected something wrong or the compressor was/is bad.

Im assuming everything was working before the clutch coil burned up!

Wish I had the other guid I had but I lost it it was all about replacing the A/C clutch coil and was a good guide

I measured the gap it said it should be .030 which it easy, I replace the high pressure n low pressure switch. Nothin worked so for now I disconnected the connectors off both the high n low side n put a paper clip bridging em and wrapped em up in electrical tape and you turn the ac on and the clutch engages! Any ideas

Put a gauge set on the systems, high and low pressure, and see what you've got. Something's wrong. Without the pressures, you can't diagnose the system. It's unlikely the old and new pressure switches would all fail.

I charged the system fully at a ambient temperature of 100 degrees (Phoenix Az) lol it was about 250-275 on the high side and 20-40 on the low.

I think you're just a bit low on freon.

20 psi will trip the low pressure switch and it needs more than 40 to reset.

The specs from Dodge from the 2000 FSM say: Opens < 24 psi +/- 1 psi. resets 39 psi +/- 2 psi.

The high pressure switch should be fine. Opens: 450-490 psi, resets 270-330 psi.

In 2000 Dodge specs a high side pressure, at 100, of 220-260 psi. You're there.

The 2001 FSM gives better information, and different pressures. At 100, High side: 290-390 psi. Low side: 35-45 psi.

I agree your probably still a little low on freon. If there is not enough over ~20-25psi in the system without the compressor on, it will not allow the compressor to turn on. If the pressure is bouncing 20-40 psi, that is your low pressure switch cutting on and off to prevent freezing of the coils.

Well I got the system up to 375 on the high side and up to 40 on the low side took both paper clips out n plugged em in and the clutch didn't engage and then we plugged the high side in and put the paper clip in the low and it engaged so the high side is good but the low side still has the paper clip lol any ideas man lol thanks in advance

If you're at 40 you should be just about there with the low pressure switch. It may be defective.

What's the ambient temp? Still 100?
